Ocean Beach

This past weekend I went down to Ocean Beach to go for a stroll. I live in the Sunset, so getting to the beach is always a quick trip. The weather this day was really odd and muggy, as it seems to be lately in San Francisco, so I was able to go down to the beach with a dress and light coat. It was such a nice relaxing way to enjoy the day. I'm going to have to start walking on the beach more. One surprise was that the beach was covered in these Velella Jellyfish. They apparently go wherever the wind takes them, so unfortunately it can result in thousands of them washing up on beaches, which was the case here.

Somehow, despite the fact that I live in this dress, I don't think it has ever made an appearance on the blog before. So here it is, my final eye print dress that I own (for now). Sadly I didn't manage to capture any photos with my shoes on, but they made a nice accessory to carry around, I suppose.

Family Affairs Online Sample Sale

I had to let everyone know before it's over that Family Affairs is having their first ever sample sale, and it's being executed online. If you haven't checked them out, I highly recommend that you do now.  Family Affairs is made up of Nina and Kaya Egli, a mother and daughter, who combine their fashion and design skills to create adorable and well styled collections each season. Right now their pieces are cheaper than they'll ever be, and it's a great time to snag something. Please check them out.

You can find sale items right here, and by using the promo code YOUMOVEME at checkout, it will take an additional 30% off of your order. Here are photos of me in a few of the pieces of theirs that I own:

Here I am (with Greg) wearing the Banana Split Shirt in zebra print, which is still available here, in this print. I also wore it on my blog a few posts back, right here

This is me mini golfing in the Cafe Zoe Dress in phone print, which is still available here. (Note to self, I need to actually take photos in this dress, since this is the only one I could find.)

Lastly, here I am, family Christmas card style a few years back, in the True Blue Dress, a favorite of mine. It's still available here.

migh-T by Kumiko Watari - "Mysterious Peaks" AW 2014

It's very possible that I'm the last one to realize that this brand exists. I stumbled upon it the other night while looking for shark related clothing. Whenever it's almost shark week, I get the urge to look for cool shark dresses or shirts, even though I seem to never actually buy anything. I came across this amazing dress, and immediately stopped all shark searching to look up the designer.

According to the website, Kumiko Watari was born and raised in Osaka, Japan and studied textiles. The prints on her designs are hand drawn, and she tries to add a bit of story telling and humor into each one. "The concept of the label 'migh-T' is 'mighty-strong' and also 'my-T-shirts' for people who have a strong mind and enjoy being unique in their lives." She has other collections ranging in themes from "Gnomes and Gardens," to "Fortune Telling," to "Deep in the Jungle." Check out her other collections right here.

I'm sharing migh-T's most recent collection for now, but I'm planning to post her shark collection, from a few years back, when it's Shark Week. I love how dreamy this current AW 2014 collection is. Also, as an anthropologist, I totally appreciate the mammoth cave drawing prints. The collection reminds me of the feeling I had while watching Werner Herzog's Cave of Forgotten Dreams. If you haven't seen it, I'd highly recommend it (plus it's on Netflix instant watch right now). It's a beautiful documentary that gives viewers visual access to the Chauvet Caves in Southern France. These caves hold what we know as the earliest human drawings. This whole collection captures the same soothing, icy, mysterious feel that the documentary created for me. Additionally, the collection reminds me of all of the various ice themed temples in different Zelda games. Specifically Snowpeak from Twilight Princess, in which the final boss is this an Inuit woman who has been possessed by an evil mirror. Strange the way my mind works, eh?

Lake Tahoe Pt 1

This week I'm fortunate enough to be taking time off and lounging in Tahoe! Greg's brother and sister in law are nice enough every year to rent a house for the week and invite their friends up to join them. This year we're a few blocks away from Garwood's, known for their famous drink, the "Wet Woody." They're really amazing, so we've been walking down pretty much every day to get one. This is beach area right around the restaurant.

I got this hat last fall at h&m and am finally utilizing it now that I'm trying to prevent my face from getting a sunburn. I'm kind of liking it... hopefully I'll start to wear it more year round!

Silver

So this is a bit late, but regarding that one post where I mentioned possibly purchasing a silver coat on eBay, it turns out that I did win said coat. And here it is. It's a tricky one to wear without making the outfit look too fancy, which is why I want to try to style it the Alexa Chung way sometime, especially since a goal of mine is to try to start wearing jeans more again. The coat itself is pretty amazing, and is apparently made in Paris. It has really cool vintage looking label. The only negative aspect is that the material makes a kind of scrunchy sound when it moves.

Also, you may remember this dress from a post awhile back, and me mentioning how I wish I had gotten the long sleeve version. Well, turns out asos had the tall version of this dress in long sleeve available for like $15. Now I'm clearly not a tall person, but I figured I can always get it tailored. For now I'm just trying out a longer hem with it, but I definitely prefer the long sleeve style more.

Miu Miu Resort 2015

As far as I'm concerned Miu Miu can do no wrong. I love the 70s feel of this collection. I also love that it doesn't seem specific to any particular season, which I guess is the point of a resort collection. The colors are very neutral, with some bright colors mixed in, and the models are wearing summery sandals but also fall looking heels, and coats, plus some suede. The beaded pieces are styled so perfectly. It's making me want to try out some print/texture mixing, which is a goal and work in progress of mine.

Check out all of the looks from the collection here.
