Blue Denim - AC for AG

I kept seeing the link to this video a week ago or so, and never bothered to click it. I thought it was just a video of Alexa Chung doing karaoke at some random karaoke bar. I just happened to finally watch it today, and I didn't realize it was a short called 'Blue Denim,' created by MyTheresa and Gia Coppola. It features Alexa Chung wearing a denim dress from her new AG Denim collaboration. She's singing karaoke at a house party of unamused guests. I can't believe how great her voice is - I know it was edited and all of that, but still, for someone with quite a raspy albeit enjoyable speaking voice, her singing sounds pretty fantastic! It's only a few minutes long, but it's an enjoyable few minutes. Especially knowing that Chung actually does love doing karaoke. It's enough to make me want to go out and sing some karaoke tonight!
I'm quite excited for her Alexa for AG collection to come out. Judging from this dress and the items she has been sharing over at Vogue UK, it looks like it will be full of some great pieces. I've been desperate for more since she did her Madewell collection, so I'm hoping this will be a winner as well!

The Cotillion

Something that not many people know about me is that when I turned 18 I was a debutante. This means that I was in a ceremony known as The Cotillion, where I came out to society as an adult. Cotillions have been a longtime tradition, and debutantes and Cotillions are often thought as of a Southern thing. The San Francisco version is very old-time San Francisco. The original point of the ceremony is that you are essentially presenting yourself with the man that you're planning to marry. Nowadays it's just done for tradition's sake, and my escort throughout it all was actually my best friend in high school, which made it a really fun and easy process. If you know me well, you would probably never think that this is something I'd want to go through. I've always been a bit shy and reserved, and definitely more of a tomboy, at least personality wise. I'm not even sure if my parents expected me to say yes to going through it all. But I did it at the time to prove to everyone that I could, and while it was a lot, ultimately it was a fun process, and I made some good friends along the way. I tried to include some photos of the setting, as well, but my apologies for the random background guests. It was hard to find any empty areas as it's a pretty well attended event.

Now each year I'm invited to watch the current years debutantes go through the ceremony. It's definitely fun to go and enjoy this huge ball that's thrown at the Palace Hotel each year, and enjoy all of the food. Plus, you're required to wear a floor-length gown, and I always love an opportunity to dress up. Admittedly I used to have a lot of fun finding vintage gowns to wear to it each year. Last year I got lazy and found a gown last minute at h&m, and I re-wore that same dress this year. Perhaps sometime in the future I can share some of the past gowns I've worn to it.

Tis The Season

So the next few posts are going to be from the last couple of weeks, when I was dressed up for different holiday outings. This outfit is from a night out with friends seeing 'The Nutcracker.' It was so much fun. It has actually been years since I've seen this show. Laughably, we bought our tickets pretty last minute, and had seats that were literally in the very last row of the entire theater. But the show was still amazing, as usual. It was almost more magical watching from the top, because it truly made all of the dancers look like little toys, similar to going to Musee Mechanique (if you haven't been and live in SF, you HAVE to go sometime) and watching the music boxes there. Plus, the music is great no matter where in the theater you sit. I've always been a fan of classical music, so I always love hearing a live symphony. Tchaikovsky's work never disappoints.

Greg and I also went to see 'A Charlie Brown Christmas' live a couple of days after this one, and I wore the exact same outfit (I guess I've been having a lazy holiday season). So there are a couple photos in there from that night, too!

Black/Silver Dress: Dahlia UK (bought from a Calivintage Pop Up Shop)

Samantha Pleet 'Visions' Fall/Winter 2014

It hasn't really felt like Winter around here. Even with Thanksgiving having passed and Christmas in less than a week, it hasn't really struck me. At least now we're starting to get more rain, so that's helping my mind realize what time of the year it is. Anyways, I wanted to share this lookbook by Samantha Pleet, titled 'Visions.' I had meant to post it months ago, but I guess now that I'm finally feeling like it's Winter, it feels appropriate to share. Sadly most of the items have sold out, but it's still such a lovely lookbook to look at and enjoy.

You can shop the remaining looks at her website here and check out the video that was created for the collection here
